Woyome Reacts To Disbarment Of Senior State Attorney Over Alleged GHC400K Bribe Payment

Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome has responded to the disbarment of Samuel Nerquaye Tetteh by the General Legal Council (GLC) over allegations of a GHC400,000 transfer into his wife’s account, vehemently denying any involvement in bribery.

In a press conference on Friday, Woyome contested the GLC’s decision, asserting his innocence and refuting accusations of bribery.

He emphasized his lifelong commitment to integrity, disclosing that he has never engaged in or accepted any form of bribery, even during his public service roles, where he declined fuel coupons.

“I would want you to understand one thing: I have been law-abiding in this country. I have never given a bribe or taken a bribe,” he told the press on Friday.

Central to the GH¢51 million Waterville judgment debt case, Woyome challenged the GLC’s actions, claiming they amounted to contempt of court. While acknowledging the GHC400,000 transfer to Nerquaye-Tetteh’s wife, he insisted it was solely for humanitarian reasons.

Woyome suggested that Nerquaye-Tetteh’s disbarment was targeted at him and threatened to pursue legal action against the GLC, labeling their actions as unjust.

The GLC recently struck Samuel Nerquaye Tetteh’s name from the Roll of Lawyers in Ghana following revelations of the GHC400,000 transfer. This disciplinary action was based on allegations related to his involvement in the case of Alfred Agbesi Woyome vs. Attorney General & Anor, specifically the transfer of funds to his wife’s account without reasonable explanation.

As a consequence, Nerquaye Tetteh is barred from practicing law and offering legal services to the public. The withdrawal of his license is immediate, as confirmed by a notice signed by Justice Cyra Pamela C.A. Koranteng JA, Judicial Secretary and Secretary to the General Legal Council.
