In a fiery response to Davido’s recent statements about African Americans not relocating to Africa, TVC presenter Akashat Nymat has lashed out at the music superstar, accusing him of failing to serve the masses and misusing his influence.
Speaking during the November 25 edition of Your View on TVC, Nymat addressed the comments Davido made during an interview where he warned African Americans against moving to Africa.
“As he done a service to the average Nigerians inside Ede? That doesn’t know the royal family of Ede? Has he done a service to Nigerians? Who is in the bush trying to get food? No! He hasn’t,” Nymat fired back, criticizing Davido for speaking out without understanding the struggles of the common man in Nigeria.
She continued, “We know that this country is hard and that the reforms were forced on us because if we had continued to feed the elite, it would be worse off. We’re suffering under that weight, and what you can say is, ‘It’s hard here.’” Nymat highlighted the plight of ordinary Nigerians who, according to her, are bearing the brunt of the country’s struggles.
Referring to the role of celebrities in shaping narratives, Nymat emphasized that while Davido is undoubtedly influential, his words must be more thoughtful and impactful. “During the elections in America, an opera would sing at the election, but she wouldn’t sit on a show or sit at a table and tell a foreign interviewer what Davido did.

That’s wrong. Because you say there, now your reference point for whether they should go ahead and invest in the country,” she pointed out.
The TVC host stressed that public figures, especially those with global influence like Davido, must be mindful of their responsibility to their country, especially when addressing matters that affect the nation’s image and economy.
Nymat further criticized Davido for his public statements, suggesting that if his truth wasn’t going to benefit the country or the people, he should have kept it private.
“See the point is, no matter how true your truth is, if it’s not going to be of service to your people, it’s better to keep it private. It is in the corridors where he could give that one privately, but he chose to tell Americans they can’t come here, whereas what we need is foreign investors,” she explained.
Taking a direct jab at Davido’s influence, Nymat questioned the artist’s contributions to local industries.
“Except Davido can show me two or three companies where he produces beans, rice, and local foods for the local man, he can’t be talking anyhow,” she declared, suggesting that Davido’s success has not translated into meaningful support for the everyday Nigerian.
