In a recent interview in the United States, Nigerian music star Davido described the Nigerian economy as being “in shambles,” a statement that has sparked outrage from political figures, including Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Igbokwe expressed his displeasure with Davido’s comments, stating, “My in-law Davido has made me sad by telling the world in America that Nigeria’s economy is in shambles.
This is very sad. I will advise him to retract the statement ASAP. Nigeria made Davido. QED!!!”
Days ago, in the wake of political shifts and social unrest, the conversation about diaspora Africans returning to their roots has gained momentum.
Davido shared his perspective on this topic during an exclusive interview with Big Homie Kodaq.
His comments come at a time when the election of Donald Trump as U.S. president has sparked a wave of discussions about moving to Africa among the African-American community.
Davido, known for his chart-topping hits and influential presence in the Afrobeat scene, has often been vocal about social and economic issues affecting Nigeria and Africa at large.
“Leave America and go where? It’s not cool back home,” he stated, highlighting the stark realities that contrast the often romanticized view of Africa.
