Ghanaian Journalist and media personality Bridget Otoo has openly criticized COP Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), for what she perceives as an inappropriate display of self-promotion.
The controversy began after a bust in Addo-Danquah’s honour was unveiled on EOCO’s premises, with the director herself looking visibly surprised by the gesture.
In a scathing social media post, Otoo did not hold back. “You have to be so corrupt to build yourself a bust and put on a ‘D-rated acting to surprise yourself,’” she wrote, expressing disbelief at the event.
Otoo’s criticism centres on what she sees as a lack of humility and transparency, questioning the ethics of such an act within a public institution like EOCO, whose mission is to investigate financial crime and corruption.
The seasoned journalist further added, “The shameless ‘we know where the Tadi girls are’ keeps digging lower and lower,” referencing a past controversy involving Addo-Danquah.
In 2019, while serving as Director-General of the Ghana Police CID, Maame Tiwaa made a widely criticized statement claiming that authorities knew the whereabouts of the missing Takoradi girls, a case that ended tragically. That comment has since been a source of public outrage, especially as many believed it offered false hope.
Otoo’s post didn’t stop at the unveiling of the bust. She went on to suggest that whoever succeeds Addo-Danquah at EOCO should take immediate action.
“Whoever takes over EOCO should demolish that nonsense on the first day of the job,” she stated, signaling her belief that such acts of self-glorification should have no place in public service.
