Bukom Banku, the Ghanaian boxing icon known for his flamboyant personality, has addressed a viral video that sparked widespread discussion about his involvement in a physical altercation with a woman alleged to be his ex-girlfriend.
In a recent interview delivered in Ga, Banku passionately defended his actions and offered context to the circulating footage.
“Ghanaians, have you seen that post about me?” he began, directly addressing the public. “The person who posted it thinks they can tarnish my image, but it didn’t work. Ghanaians have seen that I didn’t throw my hands. I respect myself in this country, and people love me, so I didn’t throw my hands.”
According to Bukom Banku, the incident was fueled by jealousy and unresolved tensions with the woman in question.

“She’s my former girlfriend,” he revealed. “Because I left her, she’s jealous, and every day, she insults me whenever she sees me passing. She sells kenkey and fish, so I went there to ask her why she had been insulting me, and she poured pepper on my face.”
Describing the chaotic scene, Banku recounted how the confrontation escalated. “I held her clothes, and she started beating me.
Her siblings also came from behind and started beating me, and then her husband gave me a blow to the face. Ghanaians, you’ve seen now that Bukom Banku didn’t throw any punches. I controlled my temper.”
Banku also refuted claims that he had encouraged his children to engage in violent behaviour or that he had been remanded for inciting them to harm others.
“They said I had been giving bottles to my children to stab others, and I was remanded for eight days. They also took GH¢120 million and a plasma [television] from me. All of these are lies. I never did that—they did it out of jealousy.”
