Former Ghanaian boxer cum entertainer Bukom Banku has made a surprising statement about his political hopes for the 2024 general elections.
In an interview on Asempa FM, he confidently expressed his belief that former President John Dramani Mahama would be victorious, and went on to share an unexpected ambition: he hopes to be appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) if Mahama wins.

With his trademark humour and boldness, Banku outlined his vision for peace in Ghana, declaring that he would bring about a quieter, more orderly society.
“The role does not need much paperwork,” he stated, clarifying his belief that the most essential qualification for the position of IGP is the ability to maintain peace and enforce order.
He added, “The fact that I have not been to the police does not mean I am not qualified for the role.” This stance, though unconventional, reflects Banku’s conviction that security leadership is not solely about formal training but also about a genuine desire to serve the public interest.
Banku’s comments come at a time when the Ghanaian political scene is buzzing with predictions and speculations from various religious leaders and prophets about who will emerge victorious in the 2024 elections.
These prophecies have sparked discussions across the country, with some influential pastors and prophets making public endorsements of either Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, or Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
For instance, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, a known prophet in Ghanaian politics, recently shifted his support to Mahama, stating that he saw a vision in which Mahama won the election.
Other religious leaders, however, have predicted a win for Bawumia, adding to the varied landscape of spiritual endorsement that often precedes Ghana’s elections.

Banku, known for his unfiltered opinions, seems to draw inspiration from these prophecies, emphasizing his own hopes tied to Mahama’s potential return to power.
His bold vision for a peaceful Ghana under his theoretical watch as IGP has stirred public interest, with some taking his comments as lighthearted ambition while others see it as a social critique on the accessibility of high-ranking positions.
