The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has extended his support to the children of the late Nana Pooley, a passionate Asante Kotoko fan who tragically lost his life following a violent incident at the club’s match against Nsoatreman on February 2, 2025.

Pooley was fatally stabbed when a heated on-field altercation between players escalated into the stands, leading to a tragic turn of events.

His sudden passing has left his children in a difficult position, facing an uncertain future without their father’s presence and support.

In a compassionate gesture, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has enrolled Pooley’s children in his educational fund, ensuring their academic needs are fully covered. This intervention provides much-needed relief for the grieving family.

Announcing the initiative, Nana Apinkra, Chairman of Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), visited the bereaved family to share Otumfuo’s pledge.

“I met with Otumfuo, and he instructed me to assure you that all educational expenses for the children will be covered under his foundation,” he stated.

Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, was fatally stabbed during a Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC on February 2, 2025.

The altercation occurred at the Nana Konamansah II Park in Nsoatre, Bono Region, following Kotoko’s 2-1 defeat.

Eyewitnesses reported that tensions escalated into a brawl involving players and supporters from both teams.

During the chaos, Pooley sustained multiple stab wounds and was rushed to the Nsoatre Ghana Health Service hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Asante Kotoko condemned the violence, stating, “Tragically, one of our supporters who was stabbed during the violence has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. This senseless loss of life is devastating, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Kotoko fraternity.”
