The Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has revealed that government will construct a new 50,000-capacity stadium at the Borteyman Sports Complex, as part of plans to transform the area into a modern “sports city.”
Speaking in a radio interview with Citi FM on Wednesday [September 10, 2025], Mr. Adams said the project is central to the government’s vision of improving sports infrastructure and raising Ghana’s facilities to international standards.
“We are planning to build a new stadium of that size within the Borteyman Sports Complex because our goal is to develop the entire area into a sports city or village—one capable of hosting international clubs for training and camps,” he explained.
The planned stadium will be supported by modern accommodation facilities, which the Minister noted will help cut down the national budget for housing the Black Stars during training camps and tournaments.
“With such a facility, we’ll also provide accommodation. Once completed, future budgets will no longer need to cater for Black Stars’ lodging. This will be done through a public-private partnership arrangement,” Mr. Adams added.
The 50,000-seater stadium is expected to be completed before 2028 and will form part of a broader strategy to position Ghana as a leading sports hub in Africa—attracting international teams for training, boosting sports tourism, and creating new economic opportunities.
