Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has openly expressed his disappointment with the performance of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, cautioning that Ghana’s World Cup qualification hopes remain far from secure.
His remarks come at a time when pressure is mounting on the national team’s technical bench to deliver results and restore faith among fans ahead of major international competitions.
The Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Chad on Friday, September 5, before narrowly defeating Mali 1-0 on Monday, September 8. Despite the victory, Mr. Adams said the team’s displays were far from convincing.
Speaking in an interview on Citi FM on Wednesday morning [September 10, 2025], he voiced his concerns about the squad’s lack of consistency in the ongoing qualifiers.
“Very soon, AFCON will kick off in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No—we’ll be watching on TV. And even for the World Cup, qualification isn’t guaranteed. We still need at least a win and a draw to be sure no one in our group overtakes us,” he warned.
The Minister was blunt about his assessment of Otto Addo’s work so far.
“If I tell you I’m impressed, then it means I don’t understand my job. I’m not. There’s a lot of room for improvement. Even the coach admits when he makes mistakes and takes responsibility. But the question is: how long can you keep saying sorry for poor decisions?” he asked.

Ghana currently leads Group I in the CAF World Cup qualifiers but must secure at least four points from their final two matches to book a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
