A staunch fan of Asante Kotoko, identified as Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, was fatally stabbed during a Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC on February 2, 2025.

The altercation occurred at the Nana Konamansah II Park in Nsoatre, Bono Region, following Kotoko’s 2-1 defeat.

Eyewitnesses reported that tensions escalated into a brawl involving players and supporters from both teams. During the chaos, Pooley sustained multiple stab wounds and was rushed to the Nsoatre Ghana Health Service hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Asante Kotoko condemned the violence, stating, “Tragically, one of our supporters who was stabbed during the violence has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. This senseless loss of life is devastating, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Kotoko fraternity.”

Nsoatreman FC also expressed their condolences, saying, “Nsoatreman Football Club extends its profound condolences to the entire Ghanaian sporting fraternity, particularly Kumasi Asante Kotoko, and the family of the deceased supporter, who tragically lost his life near Professor Amoah Koromansah II Stadium during a league game against the Kumasi-based giants this afternoon.”

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been urged to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
