Ghana’s footballing history is rich with moments of triumph, heartbreak, and redemption.
For decades, the Black Stars have been a powerhouse on the African continent, boasting four Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) titles and a reputation that commands respect.
However, the nation now finds itself in an unfamiliar and painful situation—missing out on AFCON 2025 after failing to qualify for the first time in 20 years.
Former Black Starlets head coach, Laryea Kingston, could not hide his disappointment over this shocking development.

Speaking in an interview on Sporty FM, he expressed how much it hurts to see Ghana absent from Africa’s biggest football tournament.
“I am very disappointed that our beloved country, Ghana, did not qualify.
“One of the strongest countries in African football soccer will not be participating in the AFCON in Morocco, and that is quite a disappointing moment for me,” Kingston said.
This setback comes under the tenure of Otto Addo, whose side struggled throughout the qualifiers, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points from three draws and three losses.
For a country with a deep footballing legacy, crashing out in this manner is nothing short of an embarrassment.
The frustration among fans is palpable, as many had hoped to see Ghana put up a strong challenge in Morocco, not fall at the first hurdle.
