Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has launched a defamation lawsuit against journalist Collins Atta Poku and Sompa TV/FM’s parent company, Teraone Media Limited, seeking GHS 30 million in damages.
According to Ghanasoccernet, the lawsuit follows a series of allegations made on the station’s sports programs in November 2024, which Okraku claims were baseless and damaging to his reputation.
At the heart of the dispute are accusations that Okraku mismanaged funds meant for Black Stars players, mishandled defender Daniel Amartey, and was involved in questionable dealings regarding the procurement of buses for Division One League clubs.
One of the more explosive claims is that Okraku allegedly deducted $200 from the $3,000 honorarium granted to Black Stars players by former President Nana Akufo-Addo ahead of the team’s departure for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
Atta Poku further alleged that this led to a confrontation between Okraku and Amartey, ultimately resulting in the player’s exclusion from the national team.
The journalist also claimed that O.A. Travel and Tour, a company assisting the GFA in clearing nine buses for Division One League clubs, substituted brand-new 35-seater buses with used ones due to financial constraints. The GFA has strongly refuted these allegations.
In his legal filing, Okraku argues that the statements made by Atta Poku and Sompa TV/FM paint him as corrupt and unfit for his role, causing severe reputational damage.
He is demanding a public retraction, an official apology, and a court injunction preventing further defamatory remarks.
