Inaki Williams To Miss Mali, CAR Games Due To Injury

Inaki Williams will not be part of Ghana’s squad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic (CAR) due to undergoing foot surgery.

The Athletic Bilbao star had to undergo a procedure to address a scar on his left foot, as confirmed by his club.

The surgery took place at the IMQ Zorrotzaurre Clinic in Bilbao. Unfortunately, this means that Inaki is expected to miss Athletic Club’s final match of the season against Rayo Vallecano at the Estadio de Vallecas.

The timeline for his recovery after the surgery is uncertain, which raises concerns about his availability for the crucial qualifiers next month.

Ghana is currently preparing for matches against Mali on June 6 at the Stade du 26 Mars and against the Central African Republic on June 10 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Inaki’s potential absence introduces an element of uncertainty to the squad selection, and coach Otto Addo is expected to announce the team in the coming days.

Ghana is currently in 4th place in Group I with only three points. Securing victories in these upcoming matches is crucial to enhance their chances of qualifying for the prestigious tournament, which will be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Ghana suffered a defeat in their second group match against Comoros on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

The game took place at Moroni Stadium, where the Black Stars missed opportunities to secure a two-goal lead in the first half.

As a result of this loss, Comoros now leads Group I in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, while Ghana remains in third place.
