Inaki Williams, the forward for Athletic Bilbao, has become a revered figure for Ghana’s Black Stars after his crucial goal against Madagascar.

Despite facing challenges with the national team, Williams showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting his first goal for Ghana in the 2026 World Cup qualifying match. The Spanish La Liga club, Athletic Bilbao, expressed their admiration for Williams’ achievement, highlighting his contribution to the team’s victory.

On Twitter, the official handle of the Spanish team wrote:

@Williaaams45 scores the winning goal (1-0) for the @GhanaBlackstars in the @FIFAWorldCup qualifier against Madagascar. The striker’s first goal for Ghana.”

The 2026 World Cup qualification campaign for the Black Stars commenced with a triumph as they defeated Madagascar 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday. Inaki Williams emerged as the hero, securing the victory for Ghana with a header from close range. The celebration at the end of the match emphasized the importance of the World Cup for Ghana, as they aim for their fifth appearance in the finals.

Next, Ghana will face Comoros in Moroni on Tuesday. The upcoming matches against Mali, Chad, and the Central African Republic will be crucial for their success.

The primary objective for the Black Stars is to secure the top position in the group, which would guarantee direct qualification to the tournament co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Finishing in second place would mean a lengthy playoff process, a scenario that Ghana is eager to avoid by clinching victory in the group. The Black Stars are determined to leave their mark on the journey to the 2026 World Cup.
