Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, a seasoned Ghanaian footballer known for his impressive club career with Udinese in Italy and his contributions to the national team, expressed admiration for the Ghana U20 team (Black Satellites) following their recent performance at the WAFU Zone B U20 Championship.
Speaking to 3Sports, Badu praised the team’s determination and resilience, particularly noting their hard-fought games against teams like Benin, Togo, Niger, and Nigeria.
Despite falling short of a tournament victory, he celebrated their journey to the finals and qualification for the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“Yes, I was well impressed with the team. I watched all their games…they have been playing well; they will go down and fight back and come and win games. I know Desmond [Appiah Tetteh], a very good coach—well intelligent,” Badu shared.

His encouragement for Desmond and the team highlights his belief in their abilities and potential for growth, as they move forward to the AFCON with a vision to make a lasting impact. Badu’s personal experience brings unique insight into his comments.
Known for his role in Ghana’s 2009 U20 World Cup-winning squad, he reminisced about his generation’s accomplishments. That team famously won the U20 AFCON, followed by a historic victory at the FIFA U20 World Cup, marking Ghana as the first African nation to clinch the title.
Reflecting on this legacy, Badu hoped the current Black Satellites could replicate their achievements: “I wanted them to set the record we set in our time…win the WAFU, AFCON, and the World Cup, but they have lost one,” he said, alluding to their WAFU final defeat.
The Black Satellites’ upcoming challenge at the U20 AFCON holds significant weight, as a successful performance could lead to their qualification for the U20 World Cup, aligning with Badu’s hope for a triumphant legacy.
“All is not lost…we will prepare very well for the AFCON so we can qualify for the World Cup,” Badu added, rallying support for the young team.
With Ghana’s rich history in youth football, expectations are high for the Black Satellites to build on their successes and make their mark on the world stage.
