Former Ghanaian international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu did not hold back his disappointment regarding the current state of the national football team, the Black Stars. He stated, “The national team is in a ditch. We don’t need to massage anything anymore.
I am tired—personally, I am tired. At this point, we have to be humble and go back.” Badu’s comments come on the heels of a disheartening performance from the national team, which has struggled significantly in recent matches.
Badu pointed out the alarming trend in the Black Stars’ record, noting, “For the last 15 solid matches, the Black Stars have won only two games. You think that last week we played, created chances, and couldn’t score, so it is compulsory that we will win this one?”
He emphasized that despite any improvements, the team still lacks the fundamental qualities needed to succeed.

The former midfielder expressed his concern over the lack of development across various age groups in Ghanaian football, mentioning the U-17, U-20, U-23 teams, the local Black Stars, and the women’s teams. “There is nothing going on,” he lamented, highlighting a systemic issue in the nation’s football development.
Badu further criticized the frequent coaching changes within the national team, stating, “You have changed coaches six times, and still this is the same problem.” He underscored the need for consistency and a more cohesive approach to team management.
The lack of player performance, especially when they switch from club to country, was another point of frustration for him. “This is the players you have; this is what they are doing in their clubs and doing very well. The moment they get to Ghana, then it turns to something else. Even controlling a ball is hard,” he remarked.
The interview took a deeper dive into tactical issues as well, with Badu questioning the team’s defensive capabilities. “Look at the goal; two defenders and the player pass between you. I don’t know if they are blocking the ball or what,” he stated, expressing disbelief at the basic defensive lapses. “You don’t have a team, you don’t have character, you don’t have passion, and you can’t defend this kind of ball.”
He also reflected on the team’s inefficiency in capitalizing on set pieces, asserting, “If you compare our two games, the set pieces we have gotten are more than 30, and we have not utilized even one.”
