When Kofi Adams was nominated as Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, the excitement of his appointment was quickly met with unsettling warnings.
Whispers of deep-seated corruption, powerful cliques, and bureaucratic roadblocks filled the air, with many questioning whether he could survive in a space that had frustrated and defeated others before him.
In an interview on Max TV, Adams did not shy away from the fears he encountered. “Yes, it was frightening.
When I was nominated, the news everywhere was that the sports ministry is full of mafias who engage in all sorts of activities.

Can you survive? I thought, well, it’s a ministry in Ghana with Ghanaians working there,” he disclosed. However, rather than letting the warnings deter him, Adams chose to see them as motivation.
“If you’re warned about a place, it means you must be extra careful. Rather than feeling sad, I felt encouraged to face the challenge and deal with it.”
The Ministry of Sports has long been plagued with allegations of financial mismanagement, lack of accountability, and internal power struggles.
From controversies surrounding the Black Stars’ World Cup expenditures to unresolved questions about stadium renovations, the institution has often found itself at the center of heated public discussions.
