A West Ham fan travelled all the way from London to Ghana to watch Mohammed Kudus in action against the Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON qualifier) played in Kumasi on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

West Ham United acquired the signature of the highly-rated Ghanaian midfielder from Ajax during the last transfer market. The club successfully prevailed over fierce competition from several prominent European teams to secure the services of the talented Ghanaian forward from Ajax.

Kudus played just a few minutes in his first game for West Ham against Luton, which they won 2-1. West Ham fans are anticipating that he will greatly transform the fortunes of the club. Hence, most felt disappointed that they could not savour him fully when he was only given a few minutes in the aforementioned match.

Probably hinged on the foregoing, one overzealous fan decided to come to Ghana and watch their star signing in action, and to say he really enjoyed his trip is an understatement as Kudus did not disappoint. The 23-year-old player successfully scored from a free-kick, contributing to Ghana’s comeback and eventual 2-1 victory over Central African Republic. This win secured Ghana’s qualification for the upcoming tournament in the Ivory Coast.

The fan, identified as Ian, told the interviewer from Ghanaweb that he had come to Ghana to watch Kudus. He said;

“I am here to watch Mohammed Kudus, our new signing. He is very skilful and strong. We love him. West Ham is massive everywhere you go. I’m coming all the way from the UK to come and watch Kudus and the Black Stars.”

Kudus, a highly versatile athlete with exceptional dribbling skills and a remarkable ability to create and convert scoring opportunities has emerged as one of the most coveted young talents in European football. His impressive track record has earned him a coveted spot at London Stadium, where he will showcase his exceptional abilities.

“I’ve been dreaming of playing in a league like this since I was a kid,” said Kudus during his unveiling at West Ham.

“I’ve been dreaming of this moment and I’m so happy to be here. But it doesn’t stop here, I want to keep going.

“I try my best to entertain the fans as I think that’s what football is all about. I’m just here to do my best and help the team. I’m really happy to be here. I will fight for the badge. I can’t wait to get started.”
