UGSRC Legal Advisor Bright Atsu Kofi Agbetsise has outlined the next steps for Guru following his disqualification from the presidential race related to the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC).
Bright indicated that, according to their constitution, there is an opportunity for Guru to appeal the ruling and potentially regain his candidacy during an interview with GhanaWeb Entertainment.
When questioned about the appeal process, Agbetsise confirmed that Guru has the option to seek recourse through the Judicial Board.
“Yes, he can. The SRC Constitution makes it possible for aggrieved persons to seek redress from the Judicial Board,” he said.
GhanaStreetJournal earlier reported that Guru’s ambition to become the next Ghana Student Representative Council president of the University of Ghana was thwarted following his disqualification by the university’s Electoral Commission.
In an official statement addressing this matter, the commission cited the university’s constitution, which stipulates that only residents are eligible to run for election.
Both Guru and his running mate, Jeffery Adu Yeboah, were disqualified after they acknowledged during the vetting process that they do not reside in any of the university’s halls.
Guru was considered a strong contender for the position due to his widespread popularity and the active campaign he conducted with support from notable figures such as Sarkodie and Lilwin.
