Leicester City’s manager, Steve Cooper, has revealed that young Ghanaian talent Abdul Fatawu Issahaku may soon find himself playing as an attacking right-back following his impressive display during the team’s thrilling comeback against Southampton.

The 20-year-old winger was substituted in for Victor Kristiansen while Leicester was down 2-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium. His introduction marked a pivotal shift in the game, as Fatawu adopted a high full-back position that significantly influenced the flow of the match.

His contributions were instrumental in the team’s second-half resurgence, directly involved in all three goals that turned the tide.

Fatawu’s performance was nothing short of electrifying. He not only assisted the first goal but also played a crucial role in creating the second. Additionally, his tenacity won the corner that led to the third goal, showcasing his ability to impact the game both offensively and defensively.

Despite not starting a Premier League match since August, Cooper emphasized Fatawu’s blend of defensive diligence and attacking flair as key attributes that could see him thrive in a new role.

“He’s a really exciting young player,” Cooper remarked in a post-match interview. “He did brilliantly for the club last year, and he’s quickly becoming an exciting Premier League player as well. We’re just in that little transition with him, developing his game to add more variety.”

Cooper’s praise extended beyond Fatawu’s offensive capabilities; he noted the young player’s commitment to defensive responsibilities.

“You saw the exciting bits of Abdul’s play today, but he’s happy to run back just as quickly, which is not always a trait for a player of his profile,” Cooper added, highlighting the balance Fatawu brings to the pitch.

This newfound versatility could be crucial for Leicester City as they navigate a demanding fixture schedule.
