An unfortunate incident of a power outage during a match at the Cape Coast stadium caused a brief moment of embarrassment for Ghana, the host country of the 13th edition of the African Games.
The match was between Ghana’s Black Princesses and their counterparts from Ethiopia. It was rudely interrupted by a power cut, not once but twice, and this has sparked wild discourse online.
The first power outage occurred in the 36th minute, resulting in a delay of approximately 20 minutes before the game could resume. However, just before halftime, the lights went out again, leading the referee to prematurely end the first half of the match.
Luckily, the lighting stayed consistent in the latter part of the game, enabling Ghana to secure the sole goal thanks to Jacqueline Owusu in the 59th minute.
Even with a player sent off in the 79th minute, Ghana successfully maintained their lead. Next, they will be up against Tanzania in their upcoming match, followed by a final group-stage game against Uganda.
In related news, Ghana’s dancehall act Shatta Wale put on a sensational performance at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium for the opening ceremony of the 13th African Games.
The opening ceremony was truly remarkable, with sports personalities and diplomats from Africa and beyond witnessing the vibrant event.
Athletes proudly showcased their national colours, representing countries such as Ethiopia, Tunisia, Seychelles Island, Ghana, South Africa, Egypt, and more.
The ceremony was further elevated by the captivating performances of other Ghanaian musicians, like King Promise, and South Africa’s Kamo Mphela.
As soon as Shatta Wale took the stage, he created an electrifying atmosphere that left the crowd cheering and filled with excitement.
His performance of his chart-topping hit song Ayoo had his fans in a frenzy, and he even paused to deliver some dramatic dance moves, captivating everyone in attendance.
