DJ Slim has weighed in on the 2024 elections, offering his thoughts on why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) suffered a significant defeat, despite running a strong campaign.
In a candid interview, DJ Slim highlighted the changing dynamics of voter behaviour, which he believes played a key role in the election’s outcome.

“This is a new era. The voters these days have a completely different mentality,” DJ Slim stated, reflecting on the evolving political landscape. “I believe the number of floating voters in every region has increased a lot. People are discerning enough to vote based on issues.”
His comments come at a time when political analysts are increasingly noting the growing influence of independent and swing voters—those who are not firmly aligned with any one party. This shift, according to DJ Slim, has meant that voters are no longer swayed by traditional loyalties or party affiliation alone.
“I could see some staunch NPP zones flipping to the NDC, so it only tells us that people these days vote based on issues. They are not as traditional as we’ve been led to believe,” DJ Slim added, noting that even areas typically loyal to the NPP were affected by this new wave of issue-based voting.
When asked about the NPP’s campaign, DJ Slim acknowledged the party’s efforts but also pointed out that it was not enough to secure victory.
“Being fair to the NPP, I’d say they ran a very solid campaign. The level of their campaign will go down in history as one of the most expensive ever,” DJ Slim remarked.

Despite the heavy financial investment, he believes that the party’s campaign failed to address the core concerns of the electorate, especially in key battleground regions.
However, DJ Slim was not entirely critical of the NPP. He also took a moment to praise the party’s flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“I’ll say this—Dr. Bawumia is the most popular vice president Ghana has ever had,” he declared, acknowledging the significant public support the Vice President enjoys.
Dr. Bawumia’s popularity, particularly among younger voters, has been a defining factor in his political career, and DJ Slim recognized this as one of the NPP’s strengths.
