AFCON 2023: Don’t Play Against Egypt As If You’ve Gone For Honeymoon – Gabby Warns Black Stars

Leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has sent a strong caution to Ghana’s Black Stars ahead of their crucial fixture against Egypt in the ongoing African Cup of Nations.

According to Gabby, the Ghanaian team should treat the match as serious business and not anything like a honeymoon trip.

“The Black Stars should not play in Abidjan tomorrow as if they went there for a honeymoon. AFCON is serious business,” he wrote in an X post.

The caution by Gabby comes on the back of a slow start by the Black Stars to their 2023 AFCON campaign in Ivory Coast.

Ghana lost 1- 2 to Cape Verde last week in their opening match of the tournament, sparking signs of an early exit.

Paired with Egypt, Mozambique and Cape Verde, Ghana needs a good show from the current AFCON to redeem itself from a rather abysmal performance put up during the most recent edition, where the team failed to make it past the group stages.

The Black Stars will play against Egypt on Friday before concluding their Group B campaign with a fixture against Mozambique.
