In a stunning upset, Cote d’Ivoire has emerged as the champions of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, completing a remarkable host-and-win agenda.

The 34th edition of the tournament saw the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, facing off against giants Nigeria in the final on Sunday night.

At the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara, the Super Eagles of Nigeria took the lead with a powerful header by William Troost-Ekong in the 38th minute, leaving the Elephants trailing at halftime despite their dominance.

However, fueled by the support of their home fans, the Elephants staged a miraculous comeback in the second half.

Frank Kessie and Sebastien Haller scored crucial goals in the 62nd and 81st minutes, respectively, propelling Cote d’Ivoire to a 2-1 victory at the end of the 90 minutes.
