You Can’t Bully Me Like Iwobi- Super Eagles Player Sadiq Umar Replies Nigerians Over AFCON Loss

Super Eagles player Sadiq Umar has expressed his disappointment with certain Nigerians who have been trolling him and his colleagues after the Super Eagles’ 2-1 defeat against Ivory Coast in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Several Super Eagles players, including Alex Iwobi, have faced harsh criticism on social media for their performances throughout the tournament, particularly in the final on Sunday, February 11.

Taking to his Instastories, Umar issued a stern warning that he should not be mistaken for Alex Iwobi and that he will not hesitate to respond with insults to anyone who targets him. He wrote:

I no even play you con dey insult me Abeg oo Me I no be iwobi I go Insult person papa with him mama join Yes I be dat topical Hausa boy Abi u see fear for my eyes Pushing someone into depression & mental breakdown. Yet you want life to be better for you, e no fit ever better for una! Vagabonds!!!! Х

Following Nigeria’s loss in the Africa Cup of Nations, midfielder Alexander Iwobi took a drastic step by archiving all his Instagram posts.

This decision came as a response to the overwhelming amount of hate speech he received on his social media accounts from disappointed Nigerian supporters.

Iwobi played a crucial part in Nigeria’s unexpected journey to the final, starting in six out of seven matches.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time he has faced online targeting, as he was previously subjected to criticism after his sending-off in the 2021 tournament. Rumours have now emerged suggesting that he might retire from international football.
