The founder of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro has blamed President Nana Akufo-Addo for the country’s current economic problems.
Prophet Kofi Oduro said that President Akufo-Addo would go down in history as the worst leader of the Fourth Republic during a sermon on September 3.
During the sermon, Prophet Kofi Oduro voiced his worries and highlighted the difficulties Ghana has had since President Akufo-Addo assumed office on January 7, 2017. He insisted that the nation’s economic woes demanded divine intervention and that the president could not solve them on his own.
“I want to tell my president that your expertise cannot fix this problem. From now until December 7, Your Excellency, you will go down in history as the worst president in the Fourth Republic. It has been six and a half years of pain and agony, six and a half years of bleeding and bloodshed. We need help,” he stated.
Since 2021, Ghana has been struggling with a severe financial crisis that the government blames on the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic and the Russia-Ukraine war. Because of this, the year-over-year inflation rate hit a record high of 54.1% in January 2023, with food prices going up by 59.7% and transportation costs going up by 71.4%. A domestic debt exchange programmeme was launched by the government as a requirement of its $3 billion International Monetary Fund bailout programmeme, which it entered in order to solve the issue.
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta said on May 19 that the first installment of a $3 billion, three-year extended lending facility had been received, totaling $600 million.
The $3 billion, three-year rescue loan was authorised by the executive board of the International Monetary Fund, providing hope that Ghana could recover from its worst economic crisis in decades. Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta stated that the money would be used to stabilise the budget and reduce inflation.
But Prophet Oduro cautioned government officials in May 2023 against giving any of it to their girlfriends, suggesting that he does not believe that the money would be utilised for its proper course.
In addition, Prophet Oduro said that the three-year repayment plan was adopted because the IMF no longer has complete trust that the government will put the borrowed money to good use.
