The General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has warned government officials not to use IMF funds to support their mistresses or girlfriends’ extravagant lifestyles.
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta of Ghana said earlier on May 19 that the first installment of a $3 billion, three-year extended lending facility had been received, totaling $600 million.
The $3 billion, three-year rescue loan was authorised by the executive board of the International Monetary Fund, providing hope that Ghana could recover from its worst economic crisis in decades. Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta has stated that the money would be used to stabilise the budget and reduce inflation.
But Prophet Oduro has cautioned government officials from giving any of it to their girlfriends, suggesting that he does not believe that the money would be utilised for its proper course.
In addition, Prophet Oduro said that the three-year repayment plan was adopted because the IMF no longer has complete trust that the government will put the borrowed money to good use.
“Now when the IMF instead of them to give us the money $3 billion at once, they can’t trust us, so they are splitting the money over three years. 6 months, 600 million for three years Why? Because you are not trusted. Now they want to see whether you are working with the money. They want to check the projects and check what you said you were doing,” he said.
“Ghana is a disgrace. Many years ago, Akufo-Addo was in Amasaman to cut sod for affordable housing; now it’s been four years and not even one brick has been spotted on the site, so if I tell you to be careful with the loan you currently have, I haven’t said anything wrong.”
“With the loan you’ve received, be careful so that none of the monies will land in the pockets of your mistresses or girlfriends, because she doesn’t work for Ghana,” he added.
