Nollywood actress Chioma Ifemeludike has expressed her skepticism over the recent apology issued by fellow actress Halima Abubakar to Apostle Johnson Suleman, a prominent Nigerian pastor.
For years, Abubakar had publicly accused the Apostle of being responsible for her deteriorating health, including claims of a swollen stomach, which she supported with photographic evidence. However, her sudden retraction and brief apology have left many, including Ifemeludike, questioning its authenticity and intent.
In a social media post, Ifemeludike shared her thoughts on the matter, asking what exactly Halima was apologizing for. “What is Halima Abubakar apologetic for? That she didn’t date him or he didn’t cause her all the health issues she dragged him for for years, including sharing evidence she actually had a swollen stomach?
“We need to know what exactly the apology is. Giving us some short lines of written apology after years of trying to convince us this man ain’t who he claims isn’t enough. I hope the apology wasn’t done under duress,” Ifemeludike said.
The conversation around Abubakar’s apology has rekindled old rumors and debates about the allegations she leveled against Suleman. For years, Abubakar had been vocal about her alleged affair with the pastor, claiming it led to severe health complications.
The controversy was particularly explosive because it involved Suleman, a figure who commands a massive following and has frequently been at the center of such scandals. His position as a “self-acclaimed man of God” adds a layer of public interest, especially since he has repeatedly denied the claims.
Ifemeludike’s concerns go deeper than just Halima’s apology. She questioned the broader implications of the apology and Suleman’s attempts to protect his reputation. “Wanting to clean up a badly stained name… Why would a self-acclaimed man of God work so hard to clean up a mess he created himself?
“Instead of admitting his weaknesses or practices, genuinely repenting, and seeking the face of God (that’s if God knows him),” she continued, implying that the pastor may be trying to salvage his image rather than face the truth.

Abubakar’s sudden change in narrative comes as a surprise to many who had previously sympathized with her, given the weight of her allegations and the emotional and physical toll they seemingly took on her. While her brief written apology might have been an attempt to close that chapter, it has instead opened a new wave of speculation and scrutiny.
For Ifemeludike and others, the apology raises more questions than it answers. Was it a genuine expression of regret, or was it made under external pressure? And why, after years of standing by her claims, did Halima decide to backtrack?
