Ghanaian dancehall sensation Shatta Wale has once again ignited conversations about the state of Ghana’s entertainment industry.
In an interview on Angel FM, the self-proclaimed “Dancehall King” expressed his frustrations over the lack of unity in the industry and why he feels more connected to grassroots audiences than international stages like Norway.
“This is why I will always choose to perform in Wasa rather than somewhere like Norway,” Shatta Wale remarked boldly.
“There is no unity in the industry, and so there is not a unified way to charge. I will always choose to serve the people that made me.”

The artist’s statement highlights a recurring issue in Ghana’s entertainment industry—its fragmented structure, which often leaves artists struggling to establish standardized practices for gigs, endorsements, and promotions.
For Shatta Wale, the love and loyalty of his local fans in smaller towns like Wasa outweigh the allure of international stages.
This isn’t the first time the outspoken artist has voiced concerns about the treatment of creatives within the Ghanaian music space.
Speaking on the same platform, Shatta Wale delved into the controversial ban on celebrity endorsements of alcoholic products.
The ban, introduced by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to protect children from being influenced by such endorsements, has been a contentious topic among celebrities, many of whom relied on these deals for substantial income.
“I’ve fought enough for this industry, but all I get in return is disrespect,” Shatta Wale said, his frustration evident.
“I won’t fight for a cause only to be disrespected by the same people I’m fighting for.”
