In a recent episode of the “Rants, Bants and Confessions” podcast, Shatta Wale revisited the infamous 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) scuffle with Stonebwoy, expressing his frustration over the handling of the incident.

The two dancehall heavyweights, who have a long-standing rivalry, were involved in a heated confrontation during the event, which saw Stonebwoy pull out a gun.

Shatta Wale, known for his outspoken nature, criticized the authorities for not arresting Stonebwoy and taking him to jail. “The gun thing they should have arrested him and taken him to jail. If it was me, I would have gone to jail.

“So why didn’t they take him to jail?” he said on the podcast.

Shatta Wale emphasized that he would have faced imprisonment if he had pulled out a gun in a similar situation. The 2019 VGMAs incident occurred when Stonebwoy was called to the stage to receive his Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award.

Shatta Wale and his entourage made their way to the stage, leading to a confrontation that escalated quickly. Stonebwoy’s decision to brandish a gun caused panic among attendees, including Shatta Wale, who rushed out of the auditorium for safety.

Following the altercation, both artists were handed indefinite bans from the VGMAs by the organizers, Charterhouse.

They were also required to sign a bond of good behaviour with the Ghana Police Service. In 2021, the VGMAs board reinstated Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy into the award scheme, but Shatta Wale chose to opt-out.

Shatta Wale’s comments on the podcast have reignited discussions about the feud and the perceived double standards in the handling of the incident.

His candid remarks reflect the ongoing tension between the two artists and their fans, who continue to engage in social media banter and debates.
