Manchester United and England midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo has shared in an interview why he chose England over his home country, Ghana.
According to him, while he acknowledged the possibility of playing for Ghana, Mainoo expressed that his ultimate dream has always been to represent England.
During the interview with journalists, Mainoo emphasized his pride in his Ghanaian roots while also highlighting his lifelong aspiration to play for England.
“Obviously I’m proud of my Ghanaian heritage and there was speculation and whatnot but it’s always been a dream to play for England so I’m happy to be here,” the young midfielder said in a video shared by Sky Sports.
Asked whether playing for Ghana was once an option for him, he stated: “I considered but I want to play for England.”
Kobbie Mainoo clinched the Premier League Goal of the Month accolade for February 2024, thanks to his remarkable match-winning goal in Manchester United’s thrilling 4-3 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
United faced a potential setback at Molineux on February 1, as late goals from Max Kilman and Pedro Neto threatened to erase our 3-1 lead.
In the dying moments of the game, with 96 minutes on the clock, it appeared that the Reds would have to settle for a draw rather than a victory. However, Omari Forson passed the ball to Mainoo, who was positioned about 25 yards away from the goal.
Mainoo’s exceptional goal was shortlisted for the Premier League Goal of the Month award, competing against strikes by Richarlison (Tottenham Hotspur), Joao Pedro (Brighton & Hove Albion), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Jefferson Lerma (Crystal Palace), Darwin Nunez (Liverpool), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), and Emerson Palmieri ( West Ham).
