French football commentator Hugo Guillemet has provided details regarding Ernest Nuamah’s unsuccessful transfer from Olympique Lyon to Fulham.
Guillemet indicated that the transfer was nearly finalized, but ultimately fell through when Nuamah did not sign the contract in the closing hours of the primary transfer window.
The reported transfer fee was 19 million euros, inclusive of add-ons, with Nuamah having completed his medical examination earlier on Friday, August 30.
Some sources have linked the deal’s collapse to an injury that ruled Nuamah out of consideration for a call-up to the Black Stars for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger in September.
According to Guillemet, as reported by the French media outlet L’Equipe, the transfer was on track until Nuamah opted not to proceed with signing for Lyon, with the football insider noting that the former FC Nordsjaelland player chose not to finalize the contract.
L’Equipe also reported that Ernest Nuamah’s management stated, “He -Ernest Nuamah- loves Lyon. Everything was wrapped up but Ernest Nuamah decided not to sign at the last minute at Fulham, because he wanted to stay at OL (who had not found a replacement for him). He returns to Lyon” Guillemet said and added that
“Ernest Nuamah blew his transfer, he felt that he was forced and the pen trembled.” Minutes after Nuamah’s purported deal with Fulham, Olympique Lyon announced the signing of former Crystal Palace winger Wilfred Zaha.
