Popular Ghanaian media personality, Afia Pokua, also known as Vim Lady, has spoken out about the confusion and controversy surrounding her name, which has led to several personal and professional challenges.
During her Gyaso programme, she shared how misunderstandings linked to her name have affected her relationships, both with her family and the public.
Vim Lady recounted a recent incident where her cousins and in-laws mistakenly thought she was the woman involved in a controversial comment about the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, after the woman met with Otumfuo’s elders.
Despite clarifying the situation, the confusion persisted, with people continuing to associate her with the incident. “Even after I clarified the situation, I posted on Facebook two days ago, and someone still commented negatively, linking it to Otumfuo’s indecency,” she explained.

She also expressed disappointment that her colleague, who shares the same name, did not publicly clarify that they are different individuals. “I expected my colleague to clarify that we are two different people with the same name, but I understand her reluctance because she was also under pressure,” she said.
This is not the first time that Afia Pokua has faced such confusion. She recalled an earlier incident when her in-laws nearly prevented her marriage to her husband due to similar misconceptions.
The confusion arose when people mistook her for the wife of journalist Captain Smart, who frequently ended his show with the name “Afia Pokua,” causing many to believe that she was involved in a relationship with him.
“When Captain Smart decided to marry Afia Pokua, people thought I was the one, especially since he often signed off his show with that name. The backlash was overwhelming, with people believing I had a husband in Belgium and was divorcing him to marry Captain Smart,” she recounted.
The situation became so frustrating that Vim Lady confronted Captain Smart, asking him to stop using her name at the end of his shows, but her pleas were ignored.
“It got to the point where I became so frustrated that I confronted him and asked him to stop ending his shows with my name, but he ignored me,” she shared.
