Lord, Hear My Cry — Journalist Emelia Afia Pokua Shares Emotional Prayer After ‘Humbling’ Experience at Manhyia Palace

Ghanaian journalist Emelia Afia Pokua has turned to social media to share a heartfelt prayer following a challenging experience at Manhyia Palace.

In a series of Facebook posts, she poured out her emotions, expressing deep sorrow and seeking divine comfort.

“The king of kings and the lord of lords. Maker of the universe, hear my cry and comfort me. In my darkest days, strengthen me and guide my steps. Because in you alone I can trust,” she began, revealing her vulnerability and need for strength.

She continued to pour out her heart, sharing, “Lord God almighty, hear my cry! I am facing rejection and disgrace, suffering from pain, and fear, and I’m in constant sorrow. Who do I turn to? Where do I go? Where do I belong? Lord, hear my cry!”

Pokua’s posts, which resonated with her followers, also included a plea for others to pray for her, as she battles through an evidently difficult period: “When you say a prayer, kindly say one for me. I need it now more than ever.”

Despite her emotional state, she maintained her faith, concluding, “In everything, I thank the Lord God Almighty.”

The controversy surrounding Afia Pokua began when she boldly criticized the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for what she perceived as his lack of action in mediating conflicts involving the Ashanti people and other ethnic groups, particularly the Bonos.

During an appearance on Bribi Gye Gye Wo, a show hosted by Mona Gucci on Onua FM, Pokua expressed her frustration, accusing the Ashantis of asserting dominance over other tribes and criticizing the Asantehene for failing to intervene in these tensions.

Her comments immediately sparked outrage within the Ashanti community, where many interpreted her words as an attack on their revered traditional leader.

In the wake of her remarks, several influential figures from the Ashanti Kingdom, including sub-chiefs and queen mothers, have spoken out, condemning Pokua’s statements.

They have stood firmly in defence of the Asantehene, highlighting his role as a unifying figure and refuting the notion that he has neglected his responsibilities in handling inter-tribal disputes.

The backlash has since placed Pokua at the centre of a heated national debate.
