As anticipated, Ghanaians on social media have expressed their dissatisfaction with the technical handlers of the Black Stars, particularly the coach, following the team’s significant loss to the United States in an international friendly match.
During the game held at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, Giovanni Reyna scored two goals, while Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun also found the back of the net, resulting in a 4-0 defeat for the Black Stars.
Ghana coach Chris Hughton made a few alterations to the starting lineup from the previous match against Mexico, with goalkeeper Abdul Manaf Nurudeen taking the place of Lawrence Ati Zigi and Jerome Opoku making his debut.
The United States quickly took control of the game, with Reyna breaking the deadlock after ten minutes following a swift move on the right flank. Opoku’s poor clearance allowed the Dortmund midfielder to score. Eight minutes later, the United States extended their lead to two goals through a penalty converted by AC Milan winger Pulisic, who deceived Nurudeen with his shot.
The situation worsened for the Black Stars when Timothy Weah capitalized on a mistake by Opoku and found Balogun, who made no mistake in front of the goal. Just before halftime, Reyna added a fourth goal for the United States from an indirect freekick inside the box.
In the second half, Hughton made a couple of substitutions, bringing in Kingsley Schlinder for Gideon Mensah and Salis Abdul Samed for Thomas Partey, in an attempt to strengthen Ghana’s team.
The only notable attempt from the Black Stars came from Mohammed Kudus, whose shot was brilliantly saved by Matt Turner. The Black Stars will commence their 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month, starting with a match against Madagascar.
Social media went into a complete meltdown with uproar as fans blasted the team for the abysmal performance that culminated in the disgraceful loss.

Meanwhile, subsequent to the disheartening 4-0 loss to the United States in an international friendly, Chris Hughton, the head coach of Ghana, expressed his sincere remorse and assumed complete accountability for the underwhelming performance of the Black Stars.
When questioned about the outcome of the match against the USA, Chris Hughton responded candidly, extending his apology and acknowledging his personal responsibility in the matter.
He said;
“I’m very sorry, and I take responsibility for the poor performance against the USA. If you ask me if I feel like I’m the right person for this job, the answer is yes.”
