Nigerian light-heavyweight boxer Gabriel Oluwaseun Olanrewaju, also known as “Success.” has died in Ghana during a boxing bout.

The veteran fighter collapsed in the ring during a bout against Ghana’s Jonathan Mbanugu at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, March 29, as part of the Ghana Professional Boxing League fight night.

What was expected to be a thrilling contest took a devastating turn. Olanrewaju had landed two weak punches before Mbanugu countered with a sharp right hand to his face.

Almost instantly, he staggered backward, lost balance, and collapsed against the ropes.

The referee began the mandatory count, but concern quickly spread as Olanrewaju slumped onto his side and then face down, his throat resting against one of the ropes.

His corner team rushed in, removing his gum shield and trying desperately to revive him as he struggled to breathe.

Medical personnel immediately intervened and rushed him to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, but despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the boxing community, with many paying tribute to Olanrewaju’s dedication and resilience in the sport.
