There seems to be a glimmer of hope that former Ghanaian international Christian Atsu could be found alive as it is believed they he is still trapped inside the wreckage of the apartment building where he resided in a new development emerging from Turkey.

According to reports in Turkish media, thermal cameras employed at the Hatay Renaissance site have verified that many persons who were buried alive by the rubble after the earthquake on February 6 are still alive.

The property, which contains roughly 250 apartments, was occupied at the time of the event, according to the media outlet Ajansspor

“There are many living people, confirmed by thermal cameras. The building, where national handball player Cemal Kütahya and his family, Hatayspor manager Taner Savut and football player Christian Atsu are located, is very crowded with a capacity of 1000 people,” Ajansspor tweeted with a video of experts at the site.

Christian Atsu and Taner Savut, Hatayspor’s sporting director, are two of the residents of the building who are thought to still be buried beneath the wreckage.

After 26 hours (February 7), there were reports that Atsu had been rescued alive and sent to the hospital, but that information was eventually discounted as the result of identity confusion.

Meanwhile, Francisca Ashitey-Odunton, Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey has disclosed that every Ghanaian resident at the epi-centre of the earthquake in Turkey has been accounted for with the exception of footballer Christian Atsu.
