Ghanaian rapper and entrepreneur, Guru, known for hits like Lapaz Toyota and Pooley, recently opened up about a personal experience that left him deeply disappointed.
In an interview on Property FM, Guru revealed his disqualification from a Student Representative Council (SRC) race during his university days—a moment that had a profound impact on him.

“It’s true that when I was disqualified from the SRC race I became so disappointed, especially looking at the effort we put into the campaign,” Guru shared, recounting the emotions he felt during that time.
Guru, whose real name is Maradona Yeboah Adjei, explained that his decision to run for SRC president was met with initial indifference.
“When I announced my decision to contest for the SRC presidency, it didn’t trend like the way the news was trending when I was disqualified,” he admitted, reflecting on how failure often draws more attention than effort or ambition.
The disqualification, which became a hot topic among students and media alike, only magnified his sense of disappointment.
“That should tell you that success has many fathers but failure is an orphan,” Guru remarked, using the popular proverb to illustrate the lonely nature of failure.
For Guru, the disqualification felt like a betrayal of the hard work he and his team had put into the campaign. His words echoed the harsh reality faced by many who, despite their best efforts, find themselves excluded from opportunities for reasons beyond their control.
What stung most for Guru was the nature of his disqualification. “The issues they used to disqualify me were things that are not part of the criteria and have been removed from the SRC constitution,” he revealed.

This revelation added an additional layer of frustration, as the grounds for his disqualification were not only unfair but also outdated.
The fact that the very rules used to remove him from the race were later removed from the SRC constitution was a bitter pill to swallow.
