Tariq Lamptey Likely To Stay Out For More Months

Tariq Lamptey might be sidelined for several more months due to an injury suffered in a game against West Ham United last month, according to their manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Lamptey, replaced in the match’s 16th minute, was anticipated to be healthy for the Black Stars’ subsequent matches against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying round. He couldn’t recover in time, so Kingsley Schindler took his position.

Before their match on Tuesday at the Vitality Stadium against Bournemouth, De Zerbi admitted that Lamptey’s injury was a challenging scenario.

“It’s a difficult situation, we will see in the next week [about Tariq],” De Zerbi said. “To have some solution on the bench in the coming weeks is important. In the last game, we finished with Solly March and Pascal Gross [in defence].”

Also recall that after a recent derby between Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion back in February which ended in a 1-1 tie, Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew had the chance to catch up with his countryman Tariq Lamptey.

Ayew got the game underway for Palace, and Lamptey came on as a substitute for Brighton. For their respective clubs, both players delivered strong performances, but after the game, they linked up to have a chat.

During their conversation, Jordan Ayew who is one of the senior players in the Black Stars as opposed to Lamptey who was recruited into the team recently, commended his younger colleague on his outstanding performance this season.

Ayew encouraged Lamptey to keep up the good work, telling him, “You’re doing well and I’m happy for you. I just want to say keep it up.”

Previously a youth international for England, Lamptey switched allegiances to represent Ghana at the senior international level and made his debut in 2022.

Lamptey was born to Ghanaian parents in England. He played for the Young Lions for England from under-18 to under-21 level as a young international.
