The long-standing rivalry between Nigerian music heavyweights Wizkid and Davido has been reignited, this time with Wizkid’s father, Chief Munir Balogun, weighing in on the matter.
In a recent interview with Punch Newspapers, Chief Balogun addressed the ongoing tension between the two artists, advising his son to pay no mind to Davido’s supporters.
“I told my son that he shouldn’t look or listen to whatever the boys who are supporters of Davido are saying.

The supporters are only looking for what they will say to collect money and all of that,” Chief Balogun remarked, hinting that many of the individuals fanning the flames of the feud are doing so for personal gain.
He further shared that he has encouraged Wizkid to overlook the provocations and take a more measured approach to the ongoing drama.
The feud between Wizkid and Davido is nothing new. Both artists have been at the top of Nigeria’s music industry for over a decade, with each carving out distinct fanbases.
Their rivalry, often magnified by their passionate supporters, has played out both in the music charts and on social media, where fans frequently pit their successes against one another.
What started as a competition for dominance in Afrobeats has occasionally spilt over into personal digs, subliminal disses in interviews, and indirect shots through song lyrics.
The tension between the two intensified in 2017 when they were both in the prime of their careers. They exchanged words on social media, fueled by their fans, and the competitive atmosphere grew.
In 2018, there was hope that they had buried the hatchet when they were seen performing together on stage in Lagos, momentarily uniting their fanbases. However, the peace was short-lived, as subtle jabs in interviews and music kept the feud alive over the years.
This latest resurgence of tension, as highlighted by Wizkid’s father, reflects the enduring nature of the rivalry.
While fans have often played a key role in keeping the drama alive, the influence of social media has added fuel to the fire. With every comment, post, or interview, the feud is reignited, prompting discussions across the entertainment industry and among fans.
The impact of the Wizkid-Davido rivalry on the Nigerian music industry is undeniable. On the one hand, their competition has driven both artists to greater heights, pushing them to release some of the most influential and groundbreaking Afrobeats tracks.

Their rivalry has spurred innovation, as they both seek to outdo each other with hit singles, chart-topping albums, and international collaborations.
On the other hand, the constant friction has polarized fans and created an environment of hostility, where supporters of one artist are often pitted against the other.
However, despite the ongoing feud, both Wizkid and Davido have continued to maintain their status as two of Africa’s biggest musical exports.
Their successes have not only contributed to the global rise of Afrobeats but have also positioned them as key figures in the genre’s international recognition. Their rivalry, while at times bitter, has arguably played a role in driving the global competitiveness of the Nigerian music scene.
