Legendary rapper Method Man has made headlines after publicly calling out DJ Skandalous, also known as Kevin Rivera, for unauthorized remixes of his music on YouTube.
In a fiery and impassioned statement shared on Facebook sighted by GhanaStreetJournal, the Wu-Tang Clan member expressed his frustration over the increasing trend of fake collaborations and remixes, which he believes exploit the hard work of original artists without any acknowledgement or compensation.
“I don’t know why this is a thing, but I hate the fact that people do these unauthorized remakes of records with fake collabs,” Method Man began.
He took issue with the growing number of remix videos that feature his voice alongside other well-known artists, like 2Pac, Ice Cube, and Freddie Gibbs, in mashups that were never approved or recorded by the artists themselves.
What makes the issue worse for Method Man is that these unauthorized videos are racking up millions of views, taking away from the official content that he and his team have worked hard to produce. He pointed out one specific remix by DJ Skandalous that had amassed over 200 million views on YouTube.
“Over 200 mil views and not one penny to the creators,” he said, calling out the lack of compensation for those who poured their time and creativity into the original tracks.
For Method Man, it’s not just about the money. The rapper also expressed frustration over the lack of respect for intellectual property (IP) rights. “No one takes into account the time and effort it takes to even make these records… whatever happened to IP rights?” he questioned, pointing out that artists like him are required to seek permission when sampling other people’s work, so YouTube should be no different.

His frustration reached a boiling point when he explained that he had personally reached out to DJ Skandalous and requested that the video be taken down. “I asked him a long time ago to take this trash down… and he still has yet to do so,” Method Man explained.
Despite DJ Skandalous allegedly telling him that no money was made from the video, Method Man remained adamant that it should be removed. “My reply is, then you should have no problem taking it down.”
The rapper also took aim at other YouTube channels like South Central Channel, Golden Age Hip Hop, and New York’s Finest, calling them out as major culprits in the unauthorized remix scene.
He lamented that many people don’t even realize these remixes are fake, and they often hear his voice on beats he would never have chosen. “I’ve heard my voice on beats I would never rhyme to, and a lot of times the verses are offbeat.”
Method Man’s frustration isn’t only personal—it’s part of a larger conversation about the protection of artists’ rights in the digital age.
With the advent of platforms like YouTube, unauthorized remixes, and unapproved collaborations have become rampant, leaving artists feeling powerless as their work is used without permission.
“I don’t respect it… this is what we call hack shit,” Method Man stated firmly, expressing his disdain for the practice. He then put the question to his fans, asking whether he was wrong for standing up or if he should just “sit down and shut the f*** up.”
