‘Stubborn’ ECG Says There’s No Need To Release Timetable Over Dumsor

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has stated that there is no requirement to review any schedule regarding the ongoing power cuts nationwide as the situation has not escalated to the dumsor phase.

During a radio interview on Accra-based Citi FM on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Laila Abubakar, the External Communications Manager of ECG, emphasized that the current power outages do not warrant the adoption of a load-shedding timetable. She mentioned that there could be other reasons behind the recent power interruptions.

“The thing is, we just want people to be aware that when your power goes off, it is not always a matter of load shedding.

“There are several issues and there are some of them that fall at the doorsteps of ECG. We are doing as much as possible to solve the ones that we can.

“There aren’t any issues with shedding load. The load shed, I think is what people understand by ‘Dumsor’. But usually, when someone asks me if, there is Dumsor, I ask them what do you understand and what do you think ‘Dumsor’ means. Unfortunately, there wouldn’t be a timetable”, she stated.

Ironically, ECG informed Ghanaians that dumsor will be intensified during peak hours from 7 pm to 11 pm in an official post shared on March 11.

ECG clarified in a Facebook post that 630 distribution transformers in various communities across its operational areas have been identified as operating at full capacity due to the increased demand for electricity.

According to them, this situation may lead to blown fuses and damaged conductors, resulting in power outages, particularly during the peak load period in the affected regions.

ECG has appealed for the understanding and patience of affected customers as they continue their efforts to enhance Ghana’s power distribution system.
