Sonnie Badu reveals why Kumasi fans went berserk after Black Stars’ defeat

Sonnie Badu has expressed his views regarding a viral video depicting Ghanaian fans damaging property at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium after the Black Stars’ loss to Angola in the AFCON qualifier.

The UK-based Ghanaian gospel artist and minister noted that the fans’ frustration arises from their failure to win the bets they had placed, as they expected a significant victory for Ghana on their home ground, where they have maintained an unbeaten record for 24 years.

In conclusion, he remarked that when one observes a man crying after a defeat, it is a reflection of his understanding of the true stakes involved.

In a post shared on Facebook and sighted by GhanaStreetJournal, the Baba hitmaker stated;

“The reason people go crazy and break things when their team loses often comes down to the bets they’ve placed and the money they’ve lost. When you see a man weeping after a lost match, it’s because he knows the true cost.

“The day I realized this was the day I took my heart out of football—it’s a betting game that can make you rich or broke.

“So, dear boys, when you’re playing, remember that lives are at stake. Come back stronger. And to the people of Kumasi, I’m deeply sorry that the record has been broken, but let’s continue to support them—they will do better.

Soccer enthusiasts quickly flooded the comment section to express their views. Here are some highlights compiled by GhanaStreetJournal for your consideration.

Joel Ogbeifun: The Black Stars of Ghana always give their all in every match. Win or lose, let’s appreciate their dedication and sportsmanship. Football is a game of victories and defeats, and true fans stand by their team through both.

Andrews Kofi Frimpong: That rotten stuff that is causing all these must be fished out…Leadership and GFA Because coaches have come and gone…the same players we lambast are performing better in Abroad… it’s like The GFA are using juju on Ghanaians look at how everyone is talking about pitch (though is an issue) but all things being equal good management and leadership will solve it easily together with other major issues like bribery and corruption.

Michael Tee Kee: Man of God, this behavior of damaging things is stupidity. Man United, Chelsea Real Madrid, they all lose games every day. Ghana spectators need to learn football.
