Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt has cast doubt on claims of Ghana’s economic resilience, pointing to the sharp decline in cocoa production and skyrocketing prices of basic goods.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV monitored by Ghanastreetjournal, he challenged the narrative being made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the country’s economy remains strong despite glaring economic struggles.
“As we sit here today, cocoa production has declined by about 60%. How can anybody describe this economy as robust when, at the same time, we claim that cocoa is the mainstay of the national economy?

“Sixty percent of production has been lost, so how can you make this claim?” he questioned.
Pratt further argued that for ordinary Ghanaians, the true measure of economic health lies in their daily experiences rather than government statistics.
“For ordinary Ghanaians, if they are to judge the state of the economy based on their own lives, what conclusion can they come to? Every price of every item has escalated.
“You took over when a ball of kenkey was 50 pesewas, and you left office when the same ball of kenkey was 5 cedis. And you’re telling us about a resilient economy? What resilient national economy?”
