Popular critic of Shatta Wale, Sally Mann has predictably criticized his recent performance at the Freedom Concert in Kingston, Jamaica.
The event, which had been widely covered in the media, became the subject of intense discussion on ShowTym on Adom TV, as Mann shared her thoughts on Wale’s tribute to Jamaican artist Vybz Kartel.
Mann, who has long been outspoken about the SM boss, revealed that Shatta Wale’s appearance at the concert wasn’t initially part of the plan.
“Vybz Kartel was informed of Shatta Wale’s loyalty, and that’s how he got onto the lineup,” she explained, giving insight into the behind-the-scenes negotiations that led to Wale’s inclusion.
While this demonstrated Wale’s commitment to Kartel, Sally remained unconvinced of the gesture’s significance.
Vida Adumtwumwaa, another guest on the ShowTym panel, echoed Sally’s sentiments, particularly criticizing Wale’s dramatic kneeling tribute to Kartel. Both women questioned the need for such a display from an artist of Wale’s stature.
“Why does he need to kneel for another artist, especially someone from a different country?” Vida asked, voicing what many felt: that the gesture was excessive for a global star like Shatta Wale.

Despite their critiques, the two women didn’t entirely dismiss Wale’s efforts. They acknowledged that his participation in the concert offered an opportunity to represent Ghana and expand his brand internationally.
“He’s clearly trying to grow his brand,” Sally admitted. “But I just wonder if it had to come at the cost of his dignity.”
