Asamoah Gyan shared a deeply personal reflection about Shatta Wale’s difficult journey in the music industry, recounting a time when the once-successful artist hit rock bottom.
Gyan began by recalling the early days of Shatta Wale’s career, particularly his breakthrough hit “Bandana,” which skyrocketed him to fame.
“When he released ‘Bandana,’ it blew up, and he was on top of the world,” Gyan said. “He was happy, enjoying his success, but fast forward a year or two, and I saw him on the streets—looking dirty and unkempt.”

The sight of Wale’s drastic fall from grace left Gyan heartbroken. He continued, “I gathered some facts, and I learned that Shatta Wale had refused to bow to the industry’s expectations. He is a real person, and you can’t just tell him what to do.
The industry tried to control him, and because he didn’t allow that, they shut him out. His music was cut off from mainstream media, and they sabotaged him to the point where he went broke.”
Gyan, who had known Wale for years, expressed how deeply affected he was when he saw his old friend in such a state.
“I was coming back from training one day when I saw him on the streets. I parked and cried. Seeing my classmate—someone who had once been on top after ‘Bandana’—reduced to this… it hurt me,” Gyan admitted.
It was at this moment that Gyan decided to stop and speak to Wale. The two met outside the Blue Lagoon, where Wale had been staying with friends.

“I asked him what had happened, and he just said, ‘Life happened,'” Gyan recalled.
This powerful moment of vulnerability from both Gyan and Shatta Wale resonates with many who have seen their own friends or idols go through hardships.
