In an emotionally charged Instagram Live session, Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan poured out his frustrations, revealing how his foray into politics left him feeling betrayed and disrespected.
Speaking with raw emotion on IG live, Gyan shared that his decision to join the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was driven by a genuine desire to leverage his influence and resources for youth development.
“All I wanted to do was use my brand to help the youth, and I knew I could do great things because even with my own funds, I had done a lot,” he began.
“I knew with state funds I could take things to another level. That is why I decided to join the NPP.”

Gyan, who has long been celebrated as Ghana’s all-time leading scorer and a global icon in football, explained that his intentions were pure.
He believed that he could inspire change and uplift young people with the right platform and resources.
However, his optimism soon turned into disillusionment as he realised the true motives behind his involvement.
“Not knowing they were using my popularity because the economic situation in the country was tough for the citizens.
They wanted to use my fan base and popularity to attract voters,” he said, his voice heavy with disappointment.
The betrayal left Gyan feeling deeply disrespected, as he lamented the erosion of his public image.
“That is how I was used, and I lost my respect in front of people because of this,” he added, the pain of the experience evident in his words.
