A federal judge has denied Sean “Diddy” Combs’ request for bail as he awaits trial on charges of sex trafficking and other serious offenses.
During a two-hour hearing, Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky agreed with the U.S. Attorney’s office, determining that Combs posed a danger to both the public and potential witnesses. Despite Combs pleading not guilty and his legal team offering a $50 million bond with home detention and GPS monitoring, the judge ruled that he remain in custody. Combs’ attorneys have announced plans to appeal the decision.

Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, issued a strong statement about the case: “For decades, Sean Combs abused, threatened, and coerced women and others to fulfill his desires, shield his reputation, and conceal his crimes,” the statement reads. Williams went on to describe Combs’ alleged actions as part of a “criminal enterprise” that engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor, bribery, and more.

Combs, arrested on September 16 at a Manhattan hotel as part of a federal probe, now faces charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transporting individuals for prostitution. If convicted, the 54-year-old rapper could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Tuesday’s indictment revealed some of what authorities recovered in those raids: narcotics, three AR-15s with “defaced serial numbers,” ammunition, a drum magazine” and evidence aligning with the “freak offs” so graphically outlined in Cassie’s lawsuit.
Also recovered were “more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant,” according to the indictment, which alleges that Combs “subjected victims to physical, emotional, and verbal abuse to cause the victims to engage in Freak Offs.
“Combs maintained control over his victims through, among other things, physical violence, promises of career opportunities, granting and threatening to withhold financial support, and by other coercive means, including tracking their whereabouts, dictating the victims’ appearance, monitoring their medical records, controlling their housing, and supplying them with controlled substances.”
His defense team is expected to return to court soon to challenge the bail ruling, with a conference hearing set for September 24. In addition to the criminal charges, Combs is also dealing with multiple civil lawsuits, including a $30 million claim from a producer on his recent album.

While Combs has officially entered a not guilty plea, the allegations laid out in the indictment could result in more than 20 years in prison if he’s convicted. His defense team is pushing for a release arrangement involving home detention, while prosecutors are determined to keep him in custody due to the severity of the accusations.
