According to a report from Ghanasoccernet, Samartex is set to receive GH¢500,000 (over $33,000) for winning their first Ghana Premier League title.
The team exceeded expectations in only their second season and were crowned champions in a lively ceremony in Samreboi.
In addition to the trophy and medals, the champions will be given GH¢500,000, a significant increase from the GH¢300,000 awarded to last season’s champions, Medeama.
Teams that finish in the top 10 will also receive cash rewards. Asante Kotoko finished sixth, and will receive GH¢60,000.
However, Hearts of Oak who narrowly avoided relegation by finishing in 14th place, will not receive any prize money.
Accra Lions, who came in second, will be awarded GH¢200,000. Berekum Chelsea, in third place, will receive GH¢100,000, while Aduana, in fourth place, will get GH¢80,000.
Other rewards include Nsoatreman (GH¢70,000 for fifth), Nations (GH¢50,000 for seventh), Medeama (GH¢40,000 for eighth), Dreams (GH¢30,000 for ninth), and Bechem United (GH¢20,000 for tenth).
Samartex, in celebration of their historic win, plans to use the prize money to prepare for the upcoming season and their participation in the CAF Champions League.
However, they will be looking for additional investments, particularly from corporate sponsors, to meet the demands of continental competition.
