Sally Mann has stirred conversation by openly questioning the presenting style of celebrated Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown.

Although McBrown has gained widespread praise for her vibrant hosting on the popular show Onua Showtime, Mann suggested that McBrown’s approach may be more reflective of her acting roots than traditional presenting techniques.

“I don’t regard Nana Ama McBrown as a presenter,” Mann said in an interview on Joy Prime, expressing her mixed feelings about McBrown’s transition from film to television hosting.

“I have always seen her as an actress. I don’t dispute the fact that she is doing well as a presenter, but anytime I see her on TV, I see her trying to infuse her skills as an actress in the show to make it livelier for her audience.”

Mann’s comments have sparked a wave of reactions from fans and industry insiders alike, with many defending McBrown’s unique style.

Known for her dynamic personality, McBrown has a reputation for using her charisma and acting background to create a lively and engaging experience for viewers.

Since her debut as the host of Onua Showtime, her warm, often theatrical approach has resonated with fans, setting her apart in the Ghanaian media landscape.

Defending her approach in past interviews, McBrown has emphasized her passion for connecting with audiences in a way that feels genuine.

“I’m just being myself. Whether I’m acting or presenting, I want people to feel my energy,” she shared in a prior statement. “If I can bring joy to people’s homes, that’s all that matters to me.”

With McBrown’s background in Kumawood—Ghana’s local film industry—her transition to television has been celebrated by many as a refreshing take.

Yet, Mann’s perspective touches on a common challenge for actors-turned-presenters who must often navigate the line between performance and presentation.

Regardless, McBrown’s popularity continues to rise, showing that for many fans, her unique approach is exactly what keeps them tuning in week after week.
